Leadership Secrets of excellent African American Women

!±8± Leadership Secrets of excellent African American Women

African American women have overcome unprecedented adversity historically and have now arisen to a place of grand success and notoriety. Two of my personal favorites among African American women are Rosa Parks and Oprah Winfrey.

Rosa Parks was an African American seamstress and civil rights activist whom the U.S. Congress dubbed the "Mother of the Modern-Day Civil rights Movement". Parks is paramount for her refusal on December 1, 1955 to obey bus driver James Blake's question that she relinquish her seat to a white passenger. Her subsequent arrest and trial for this act of civil disobedience triggered the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the largest and most flourishing mass movements against racial segregation in history, and launched Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the organizers of the boycott, to the forefront of the civil rights movement. Her role in American history earned her an iconic status in American culture, and her actions have left an enduring inheritance for civil rights movements nearby the world.

Oprah Winfrey after her birth spent her first six years living in rural poverty with her Grandma Hattie Mae. Winfrey's grandmother taught her to read before the age of three and took her to the local church, where she was nicknamed "The Preacher" for her capability to narrate Bible verses. At age six Oprah moved to an inner city ghetto in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her mother.

Winfrey was molested by her cousin, uncle, and a family friend. This traumatic experience deeply effected Oprah, but at the same time amazingly enabled her to feel for women, who would later come to be her major audience over the world. Turning her personal mess into a message, Oprah has mightily arisen as a global voice for women, an advocate for their rights, and a motherly figurehead who daily nurtures women throughout the world through her Tv broadcast.

Despite her dysfunctional home life, Winfrey skipped two of her earliest grades, became the teacher's pet, and by the time she was 13 received a scholarship to attend High School in the suburbs. Like many teenagers at the end of the 1960s, Winfrey rebelled, ran away from home and ran the streets. When she was 14, her frustrated mother sent her to live with her father in Nashville, Tennessee. Vernon was strict, but encouraging and made her instruction a priority. Winfrey became an honors student and was voted "Most favorite Girl."

Other aspects of Oprah's journey to success comprise her joining her high school speech team, and placing second in the nation in dramatic interpretation. She won an oratory contest, which secured her a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, where she studied communications. At age 18, Winfrey won the Miss Black Tennessee charm pageant.

Oprah's true media work began at age 17, when Winfrey worked at a local radio center while attending Tsu. Working in local media, she was both the youngest news anchor and the first black female news anchor at Nashville's Wlac-Tv. She moved to Baltimore's Wjz-Tv in 1976 to co-anchor the six o'clock news. She was then recruited as co-host of Wjz's local talk show habitancy Are Talking, which premiered on August 14, 1978.

In 1983, Winfrey relocated to Chicago to host Wls-Tv's low-rated half-hour morning talk-show, Am Chicago. The first chapter aired on January 2, 1984. Within months after Winfrey took over, the show went from last place in the ratings to overtaking Donahue as the highest rated talk show in Chicago. It was renamed The Oprah Winfrey Show, expanded to a full hour, and broadcast nationally beginning September 8, 1986.

Time magazine wrote, "Few habitancy would have bet on Oprah Winfrey's swift rise to host of the most favorite talk show on Tv. In a field dominated by white males, she is a black female of ample bulk."

Oprah speedily silenced her critics by taking her show to the top. Her uncomplicated curiosity, delightful humor, and endearing empathy attracts viewers of all walks of life. making habitancy feel safe in her presence, affirming their personhood, and encouraging their inherent Oprah's show provides viewers throughout the world a group therapy and personal empowerment session.

What leadership lessons can we learn from Rosa Parks and Oprah Winfrey:

1. Stand up for yourself. Don't be afraid defy the status quo and say no!

2. Disobedience in the eyes of men is sometimes obedience in the eyes of God.

3. Be bold as a lion and rule the jungle.

4. Liberation for you means liberation for others.

5. Turn your mess into a message.

6. Your pain is the power of your purpose.

7. Your adversity is your testimony.

8. Pursue instruction and demonstration of your personhood.

9. Maximize the media to advance the message.

10. advance your heart and advance your world.

11. Empathize with others providing a sympathetic ear.

12. Love unconditionally and live wholeheartedly.

There is nothing new under the sun. Apply these ladies leadership secrets to your own life and live your dreams.

Sony ICF-CS10iP Speaker Dock With Alarm Clock and Radio for iPod or iPhone: An In-Depth Review

!±8± Sony ICF-CS10iP Speaker Dock With Alarm Clock and Radio for iPod or iPhone: An In-Depth Review

iPods and iPhones are extremely popular nowadays, and what better way to optimize a device that to have extra functionality for these popular devices? The Sony ICF-CS10iP is a perfect accessory to your iPod or iPhone. I myself enjoy using this clock, and it has excellent features that I wouldn't trade for any other alarm clock in the market.

Design

First of all, I don't know if you noticed but this model is extremely stylish. I especially love how the shape of the alarm is so easy to use, with the buttons all in one area for easy accessibility. There's no part of the clock that's not useful, and its beautiful black finish makes it very suitable for any area of the house, especially on the bedside table.

It has easy-to-use functions that make operating the device a total breeze. You'd definitely find it easy because with the simple touch of a button, you can navigate through the device, set your alarms, and browse through radio stations. You can put it on any flat surface, as its design makes it very convenient to put even on top of the TV or on the coffee table.

The dimensions of the device are 290.5 x 152 x 139.5 mm, and the weight of the entire system is 4.4 pounds, quite impractical to bring around but still handy enough to transfer to different locations in the household.

Video

The LCD display of the ICF-CS10iP is nothing less than remarkable. It has an adjustable brightness so you can lower it down at night if you want to keep your room dim. It displays a 12-hour time format for easy reading of the time, and you wouldn't have to squint to see the time because of the big numbers on the LCD display.

Audio

The iPhone and iPod compatibility of this device makes it really fascinating. By docking your i-devices, you can play soundtracks from them, which means that you can personalize your playlist through your i-device. The 3.5W + 3.5W, 5.7 cm-diameter speakers produce excellent quality sound that would beat any boom box. It also makes use of the Mega Bass and Mega Xpand audio features which add to the superb sound quality of the radio clock. The digital tuner allows you to browse easily through frequencies, and you can save your favorite radio stations by setting 10 preset FM and 5 preset AM frequencies.

You can also use the radio or track player for creating the perfect mood for sleeping. Play your favorite slow songs and doze off with mellow music, and let the radio automatically turn off by setting a timer that you can set for 15, 30, 60, and 90 minutes.

Clock

It's an alarm clock, and I can say that it does a good job performing that duty. There are two different alarm settings that you can set for 2, 5, or 7-hour repeat formats, making it easy for you to set a permanent alarm for different days depending on your schedule. You also have the option of sleeping a little bit more using the snooze button, allowing you to sleep for ten more minutes, up to an hour of ten minute intervals.

The alarm sounds of the clock can also be modified according to your preferences. Set your alarm to the standard ringing sound, set your favorite frequency to wake you up, or choose your favorite disco song to cause a commotion in your room.

Other Features

That's not all that the ICF-CS10iP has to offer. You can also comfortably navigate the device by using the Remote Commander which lets you operate the clock radio even at a distance. Although it has an AC adaptor, it also has a built-in back-up battery system that allows it to function even during power outages. You wouldn't have to worry about not being able to wake up the next morning if there are sudden black outs.

The docking station for the iPod or iPhone lets you charge the phone, making it a dual-purpose dock. You can charge while listening to your favorite tracks stored in the device, or while viewing your photos and browsing through your messages and phone files.

Conclusion

The ICF-CS10iP speaker dock with alarm clock is one of my favorite household devices, simply because it has functions other than an alarm clock alone. It makes buying an alarm clock so much more rewarding, and I can say that I am perfectly satisfied with the performance of this device. You should get one too, to experience the outstanding performance of this ingenious clock.
